Girlfriend, Let's Talk: The Pelvic Floor Issues We’re Quietly Suffering Through

You know how sometimes you feel like your body is sending signals, whispering, “Hey, something’s off,” but then you brush them aside because—well—who really talks about this stuff? Let’s change that. Because you deserve to feel whole, strong, and free in every part of your body.

I recently created a video called “Not Sure What’s Wrong? 9 Signs You Need Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy (and What to Do Next)” that pulls back the curtain on these issues. If you haven’t seen it yet, here it is:

The Talk We’re Avoiding: What Are These Signs?

It’s wild how many of us experience things that seem “normal” but actually point to something deeper going on with our pelvic floor. Some of the signs I share in the video include:

  •  Leaking urine when you cough, sneeze, laugh, or during workouts
  •  Sudden urgency: feeling like you have to go and sometimes can’t make it
  •  Pressure, heaviness, or discomfort “down there” that shouldn’t be a regular thing
  •  Pain during sex or deep in the pelvis
  •  Low back or hip ache that you can’t seem to shake off
  •  Difficulty with bowel movements, or feeling like things aren’t emptying completely
  •  Bleeding or discomfort that doesn’t follow what you expect (after childbirth, after certain movements, etc.)
  •  Changes in how your bladder or bowels work, especially after surgery, childbirth, or hormonal changes
  •  Feeling disconnected from or not strong in your pelvic muscles

If even a couple of those are familiar, that doesn’t just mean “aging” or “post-baby” or “just part of life.” It could mean it’s time to look deeper—and to get help so you can fully heal.

Why This Isn’t “Something to Live With”

Here’s where the conversation usually stops—but not here.

All too often, women are told to “just do Kegels,” as if squeezing a muscle you can barely feel is a cure-all. At Physical Therapy for everyBODY, we know Kegels don’t work as a one-size-fits-all solution—and they can actually make things worse.

Why? Because if your pelvic floor is already tight, overactive, or out of balance, more squeezing only adds tension and imbalance. The real answer is to look at the entire body—posture, breathing, hips, spine, nervous system, stress—so we can uncover and treat the root cause.

What Getting Help Looks Like

When you decide it’s time:

  •  We listen to your story—what feels off, what you've tried, what gives you hope.
  •  We assess not just your pelvic floor but your posture, breathing, hips, back, core, and everyday movement.
  •  Together, we create a plan: specific exercises, movement tweaks, manual therapy, and habits that support true healing.
  •  You leave with tools and knowledge to rebuild trust with your body, reduce discomfort, and improve function.

Because healing isn’t just about “fixing” pain—it’s about restoring quality of life, confidence, and letting you move forward without hiding or shrinking away.

What Keeps Women from Asking for Help

Let’s be honest. There are reasons we stay quiet:

  •  Embarrassment or thinking “everyone’s just dealing with this”
  •  Believing it’s “just part of being a mom” or “just hormones”
  •  Trying to push through because you’ve got work, family, errands, etc.
  •  Fear of being dismissed, or of treatments being too invasive or uncomfortable

But here’s the truth: what you’re noticing matters, and your comfort matters. Getting help doesn’t make you weak; it makes you strong. It means you’re taking care of your whole body.
